They Had a Goal
Mark 15:40-16:-4 AMP
They decided what they
wanted to do.
They prepared for the completion of their goal, they bought the spices .THEY DID NOT SAY MAYBE WE SHOULD SEE IF WE CAN GET IN, BEFORE THEY INVESTED IN THE SPICES.
As they started on their way they discussed the obstacle that might keep them from their goal but they did not stop, they kept moving forward.
They had a clear idea of what they wished to accomplish but no understanding of how it would come to pass. Because, up a head there was a very big obstacle that in the natural there was no way for them to overcome.
Perhaps you have started toward a goal and then to your dismay you see an obstacle that seemed insurmountable, an extra big king size boulder in your path. It completely blocked your view of your goal. The Bible tells us that without a vision, the people perish. We soon perish if we focus on the problem instead of the victory.
I once read a story about Florence Chadwick the first woman to swim the English Channel both ways. In the very early hours before dawn in 1952 Florence stepped into the waters off of Catalina Island, intending to swim from the island to the California coast.
It was July 4th but the water was icy cold and the fog was thick. The fog was so bad that she could barely see the boats that were in her party. Several times the sharks had to be driven off with rifle shots. Florence swam for 15 hours before she asked to be taken into a boat. Her trainer tried to encourage her to swim on, as they were close to land, but Florence looked and all she could see was fog. So she quit, less than 2 mile from her goal.
It wasn=t the fear of sharks or the numbing cold water that caused her to give up, it was the fog that obscured her vision of her goal.
If Florence had been on the path with the two Mary=s and Salome it would have been the huge stone that turned her from her goal. And as a result, she would not of heard the wonderful news, He is not here, He is risen.
Sometimes we also fail because we lose sight of our goal. We start dwelling on the huge stones in the path instead of the goal. When we start thinking only in the natural we forget that all things are possible with God.
Jay and I well remember having seven children in a small house, it was truly a house full, our goal was to raise them to adults that would make reasonably good decisions. We did not have the faintest idea of how we would manage to do that and many boulders seemed to block our path way.
But we kept putting one foot in front of the other, keeping our eyes on the goal. Our hearts and hands filled with hope. Not knowing how those stones would be dealt with but finding that the closer we got, the smaller they got, big rocks turned to pebbles and in some cases, they had been rolled away. Others seemed to disappear.
God is still rolling away stones from the paths that His children walk, our job is to keep walking in the right directions.
The Chinese have a proverb that says a journey of a 1000 miles begins with one step. If we do not begin, we can not win.
I remember hearing a story about an Arctic expedition that was stranded 600 miles from civilization. The men considered the obstacles, the thought of walking 600 miles through ice and snow and below zero temperatures was more than they could bear. They were ready to give up until their commander said to them, Awe only have to walk one mile, we just have to do it 600 times.@ That helped them to get their eyes off of the impossible and back on to their goal. They made it back safely by keeping their eyes on the goal instead of the obstacle.
Two months after she gave up, Florence Chadwick decided failure was not fatal. She got back into the same water. Remember now, this is the same woman, the same cold water, same sharks, but this time she broke the speed record for swimming from Catalina to the California coast. The only difference, it was a clear day and she had a clear vision of her goal.
In Phil.3:10 Paul records. For my determined purpose is that I may know Him, that I may progressively become more intimately acquainted with Him.
Then in Phil 3:14 He says, I press onward toward the goal to win the prize, to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
We should have these scriptures as our ultimate goalC but between here and there, Cthere should be others. God has plans for your life. Those plans did not cease because you had a birthday that brought you closer to retirement.
If there are some big stones between you and the goals you have set, remember this, God still sends His Angels to serve His children. If we keep our eyes on the goal, we will find the stones rolled away. If we continue on in faith, God will make a way even when there does not seem to be a way.
So here is the plan. Decide where you want to go, C decide what you want to do, C plan for victory and completion. THEN BEGIN. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Remember that from God=s viewpoint, there are no large stones, from His viewpoint, even the pyramids look like grains of sand. Is. 30:18 AMP tells us the Lord longs to be gracious and show His loving kindness to those who expect and look for His victory.
