Better than the Blood of
Bulls and Goats

FROM THE DESERT TO THE CROSS

THE NEW COVENANT
LESSON  NINE

Ezekiel 1:10 "As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man."

In the four gospels, the vision of Ezekiel is made manifest.

The gospel of Matthew portrays the lion, the King, the promised Messiah, the anointed one, God with us.

Matthew wrote primarily to the Jews who had been taught to look for the appearing of the Messiah.

Mark wrote to the Romans. The Romans were really turned on to power, in fact many of them worshipped power. So Mark wrote of the wonder worker, filled with power. There were miracles, miracles, miracles, everywhere Jesus went. But He didn't call them miracles, He called them the works of His Father. It is in this gospel that we see the ox of the vision of Ezekiel. The servant who went everywhere serving the people. The burden bearer who said, "cast your load upon me and I will give you rest."

Luke wrote to the Gentile and described the face of a man. Luke the physician dealt with the humanity of Jesus. The Son of Man, born of the virgin Mary.  What a master stroke of the Holy Spirit to use a physician to speak out strongly for the truth of the virgin birth.

Apostle John writes of the eagle, the Son of God. "The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. These things are written that you may believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and believing you might have life though His Name." John 20:30-31 The name above all names, the one who soars above all, the eagle.

That which is called the old covenant in the New Testament is not the whole of the Old Testament. The old covenant that is spoken of as having defect in Hebrews 8:7 is the portion of the Old Testament which extends from Exodus 19 to Calvary. The new and better covenant was first mentioned in Genesis then proclaimed to Abraham. The prophets announced it, Jesus fulfilled it, and the blood of Jesus ratified it. This new and better covenant was called everlasting in Hebrews 13:20 and remembered in the Lord's supper, which was instituted by the Lord Himself. 1 Corinthians 11:25 Luke 22:20

This new and better covenant retains all of the blessings of Abraham (freedom from sin, sickness and poverty) for all those who are the true sons and daughter of Abraham. Galatians 3:29

The new birth, a new heart, eternal life, baptism into the Holy Spirit (for power to live an overcoming life, power to witness, power over demons, a new tongue of prayer, good confession and praise.) This new and better covenant works from the inside out. This new and better covenant gives us the power to become. The old covenant demanded holiness, the new covenant puts the life of God within us. The life of God produces holiness.

This new and better covenant has a new kingdom called the kingdom of light and the kingdom of His own dear Son. When we are born again, we are translated into that kingdom, not as slaves, but as part of the royal family.

Romans 8:15 amp. "For the Spirit which you have now received is not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, the Spirit producing sonship....(in the bliss of) which we cry, Abba, Father."

This new and better covenant has a new temple of God.

Ephesians 2:20-22 AMP. "You are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus Himself the chief Cornerstone. In Him the whole structure is joined (bound, welded) together harmoniously; and it continues to rise (grow, increase) into a holy temple in the Lord...a sanctuary dedicated, consecrated and sacred to the presence of the Lord. In Him...and in fellowship with one another....you yourselves also are being built up (into this structure) with the rest, to form a fixed abode (dwelling place) of God in (by, through) the Spirit."

The old covenant had at first a tabernacle and then a temple. Now God dwells not in a building made by hands. He dwells in us as individuals and collectively as the body of believers. Not some great and magnificent building but in a spiritual building.

Hebrews 9:11-12  "But Christ having come as a high priest of good things to come, with a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands. That is not of this creation; Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood he entered once into the most holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

The new holy of holies is really the original one, the holy of holies in the tabernacle was but a shadow of the real thing. When Jesus rose from the tomb, He did not take the blood of bulls and goats, but His own precious sinless blood and entered into the true holy of holies. He is now seated in heavenly places and ever lives to make intercession for us.

How do we enter this covenant? His giving depends upon our taking. The blood, of the blood covenant, as established by God, must be innocent, poured out and applied. The blood of Jesus, the Christ, was innocent by virtue of His birth and His pure life. No sin was found in Him. The blood of Jesus the Christ was poured out, but it must also be applied to each of our lives in order to be effective for us personally. This new covenant is better than the blood of bulls and goats, which could only cover sin. The blood of Jesus cleanses.
