THE TABERNACLE
We have considered the lay out of the camp, the outer court, the altar, the laver and the tabernacle itself. All of these spoke of Jesus who was to come. Only the things in the outer court were visible to the people. The chosen priesthood were the only ones who could enter into the Holy Place itself. Having offered a sacrifice for themselves at the altar they then washed at the laver and entered into the Holy Place, which was the first portion of the building inside the courtyard. In the Holy Place, there were three pieces of furniture. To the right or North, is the table of the showbread. To the left or South, is the lampstand, sometimes called the candlestick. Straight ahead just before the veil is the golden table of incense. The table of the showbread was symbolic of communion or fellowship with Christ. It was about 36 inches long by, 18 inches wide and 27 inches high. It was made of Acacia wood, commonly called incorruptible. The incorruptible wood was overlaied with gold, which speaks of majesty and glory. Around the top there was a rim, called a crown. A hands breath above the first crown was a second frame of gold and another crown. Just below the table top on each corner there was a gold ring. Two bars of wood covered with gold were inserted through the gold rings when it was time for Israel to march. The men of Levi carried the table by holding the bars. While moving, the contents of the table were left intact, Numbers 4:7. The two crowns served to keep the bread and the golden utensils from falling from the table. The writer of Hebrews said, "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, ..." Hebrews 2:9. Jesus left His crown in glory that He might redeem us. That is the glory of His grace. (crown #1) Having completed the work of the Father He returned to heaven to receive a second crown. He has been glorified because of His obedience. (crown #2)
He said, "Neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand." The apostle Paul said, "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38 He also said, "I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." 2 Timothy 1:12. Even as the two crowns of the table kept the showbread. Jesus keeps that which is committed to Him. Notice the qualification of 2 Timothy 1:12, He keeps, that which I have committed. John 10:28-29 is qualified by John 10:27, Those that hear and follow, He keeps. THE SHOWBREAD Leviticus 24:5-9 NKJV. "And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it. Two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake. You shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD. And you shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, an offering made by fire to the LORD. Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the offerings of the LORD made by fire, by a perpetual statute." The primary purpose of the table was to hold the showbread. There were 12 loaves of bread (one to represent each tribe) each made of approximately 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons of fine flour. They were all alike, equal in size, weight and appearance. Arranged in 2 rows of six. Not stacked so that some were more visible than others but arranged so that each was as easily seen as the others. All of God's people are easily seen and are equal before Him. Everyone is near Him, and equal in standing before Him. There are no superstars in God's kingdom. We are just as important and just as loved as Jesus is loved, for He said, "I love you even as the Father has loved me," John 17:23. Each one is loved equally, not for what we have done but because we have believed that Jesus came out from the Father, John 16:27. Jesus loves and identifies with all of His people, not just some. He tells us to do the same. The Hebrew word for these loaves was Challoth, which means perforated or pierced bread. The table standing in the holy place speaks of Jesus now on high seated in heavenly places. On the table were the golden utensils filled with frankincense and the Challoth. The challoth speaks of Jesus, our bread from heaven which was pierced for us, that we might be made whole. John 6:31-35 NKJV. "Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." Then they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always." And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." John 6:47-58 NKJV. "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?" Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven; not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever." Seven times Jesus said, I am the bread. Every seven days, the bread was replaced with newly baked bread, there was a continual supply, Leviticus 24:5-9. The bread was consumed by the believer priests. Eating indicates communion, with each other and fellowship with what we feed upon. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 NKJV. "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread." In the old Testament, under the law, only the priesthood could partake of the bread. They represented the rest of the people in the holy place. In Jesus, we are made Kings, Prophets and Priests and thus we are able to enter the holy place and feed on the bread of heaven. |

QUESTIONS
|
It is not participating in communion that gives eternal
life to us. We are born again and gain eternal life in heaven when we believe
that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised Him from the dead. With
the heart man believes and is justified and with the mouth confession of
that belief is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10. Communion is a memorial
meal. A meal that testifies that we have accepted ALL, all that Jesus did
for us.
The word says that we must examine ourselves. If, you have not believed, then now is the time to believe in your heart and confess with your mouth. Make this confession. "Father, I believe that Jesus is your Son and that He died for me. I believe that He is risen from the dead and is now seated at Your right hand. I ask Jesus to be Saviour and Lord of my life. Thank you Father, in Jesus name, amen." The next time you partake of communion remember, the cup represents the blood of Jesus which was shed that you might have cleansing from sin. Quietly confess before the Lord your failures and ask forgiveness. You are forgiven as you forgive. Let your thoughts go to those who might have offended you, and forgive them. Release them, let them go. Having examined yourself, you are now free to partake of the emblem of the blood of Jesus. The Word of God tells us that we must rightly discern that, Jesus the bread of heaven, bore our diseases, aches and pains, so that we might be whole, Matthew 8:17. Make this confession. "I receive His health, it is mine. As I partake of the bread, by faith, I receive into my body the health that Jesus paid for at Calvary. Thank you Father, for forgiving me and making me whole." When the table of the showbread was moved, it was covered first with a blue cloth which signified His heavenly nature, then with a scarlet cloth which signified His suffering in our place and then with the badgers skins which protected the table and it's contents from the dirt and the dust of the desert. Jesus said of us, "you are in the world, but not of the world." When we commit ourselves to Him, being both a hearer and a doer of the word, then He protects us from the sin pollution of the world, even as the coverings protected the table and the bread.
